The UVIC Mens Hockey Club will be looking for a big turnout when the puck drops at the Save On Foods Memorial Centre on Saturday, February 13th. The team will be facing off against the University of the Fraser Valley at 12:30 that afternoon. The Victoria Salmon Kings are sponsoring the game by giving UVIC their ice time. Head Coach Harry Schamhart is thankful, saying this is a big opportunity for the team.
"It’s very important," he says. "We need sponsorship and we need support." Tickets are just $5.00 and anyone who buys a ticket for this game will also be able to buy a $5.00 Salmon Kings ticket for their game against Alaska at 7:05 that night.
This will be the first time for UVIC at the Save On Foods Memorial Centre and Schamhart says the 12:30 game time will hopefully afford the team a lot more visibility. Game times are normally Friday and Saturday nights at the Ian Stewart Complex and that makes it difficult to attract fans. That’s unfortunate Schamhart says, because the BCIHL is "good, quality hockey."
"The team is excited about the 13th. It’s a huge opportunity, a great arena, and it will be a great time."
Tickets will also be available ahead of time at the Ian Stewart Complex. And Saanich school children get to go for free. Schamhart is making arrangements for tickets to be dropped off at all Saanich elementary schools.
