The UVic Hockey Club, proud affiliate of the Victoria Salmon Kings, are pleased to announce today that coach Steve Foster will be returning behind the bench for the 2010-11 BCIHL season.

Foster began his coaching career in 1984 and has coached Senior Female, Minor, Junior B and University hockey. Foster will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team as preparation for the upcoming season is well underway.

Coach Foster knows what it takes to be a champion. As a coach, he has won two BC Winter Games titles with Female hockey, one VIJHL title with the Peninsula Panthers and one BCIHL title for UVic in 2008-09.

Foster’s coaching philosophy centers on strict discipline and hard work. When asked about his coaching style Foster cited the age-old saying “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”

Asked about his goals for this season, Foster hopes to “get back to the tradition of winning at UVic.” After a lacklustre 2009-10 season Foster sees a need for change. “We need to step on the ice and not hope to win but expect to win. At UVic, we expect to win.”

Under Foster’s control, teams in the BCIHL should expect a battle each and every game. The UVic coaching staff has been taking long looks at a number of players during the club’s August conditioning camp. However, the final roster will not be set until after open try-outs are held in mid-September. The 2010-11 BCIHL season begins in early October.
