UVic Earns Alumni Association Grant
September 22, 2010
For Immediate Release
The UVic Hockey Club, proud affiliate of the Victoria Salmon Kings, are proud to announce that the team has been awarded a grant by the University of Victoria Alumni Association.
The Grants and Awards Committee award numerous grants each year to deserving UVic students and groups. Groups in need of equipment purchases, like the UVic Hockey Club, are given preference in some cases. Grants are given to groups or students that strive to provide a positive impact on fellow students, their school and the UVic Alumni Association.
The grant will be used to help purchase new helmets, gloves and pant covers for the Hockey Club's student-athletes. This equipment will be rolled over each year to save on the teams equipment costs. Each year members of the UVic Hockey Club pay $500 in club fees and donate approximately eight hours each week to practices, games or team fundraising to make playing in the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League a reality for UVic students.
The members of the UVic Hockey Club would like to extend their gratitude to the UVic Alumni Association for choosing the club as one of this year's recipients. "Given the selection criteria for this grant it's a proud moment for our club to be recognized by our school and the Alumni Association," commented Club President Matt Schultz.
As open tryouts came to a close last weekend, UVic is now looking forward to their October 9th date with the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades.
