Victoria, BC – In a Friday night home game, the University of Victoria Hockey Club was dealt its third loss of the season at the hands of the visiting Okanagan College Coyotes. UVIC gave Tim Manuel the start in net while the Coyotes answered with Adam Butler. With the loss, UVIC now has a record of 5-3-1 and sits fourth in the BCIHL standings.
After a fast, physical start to the game UVIC hit the scoreboard first. Matt Bell capitalized on the power play off of an offensive zone face off win that saw Brent Sutherland throw the puck on net before Bell banged home the loose puck. UVIC kept Okanagan College to the outside for the remainder of the period to maintain their slim advantage. After one, UVIC 1 OC 0.
In the second frame, the Coyotes' top line hammered UVIC for three goals while WHL alum Brady Mason added another for the visiting side. Aaron Buat struck twice in the period while Brock Munro tallied a goal and an assist. UVIC answered late with another goal off the stick of Matt Bell. On the power play, Matt Bell and Mark Prest played give-and-go before Bell broke in alone on challenging Adam Butler and beat the OC goalie at the 15:58 mark. The Coyotes skated into the break with a 4-2 lead.
UVIC pressured OC in the third stanza but Adam Butler stood tall in the Coyotes' net. Brent Sutherland would score a power play goal for the Club after a beautiful cross-crease pass from Dennis Pavlina with six minutes remaining in the final period. Captain Brett Campbell had a chance to tie the game on a break away late in the game but, again, Butler shut the door. Final Score, UVIC 3 OC 4.
UVIC went 3/12=25.0% on the power play while OC was 2/10=20.0%. UVIC outshot OC 36-28.
UVIC will look to get back on track Saturday night at Ian Stewart Arena in the back half of the team’s home stand. Game time is scheduled for 8:30 PM.
