UVIC Falls to Wolfpack
Power play woes continue as UVic loses 7-3 Friday night
For Immediate Release
March 5, 2011
Victoria,BC – In a Friday night match up, the Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack were in town to collide with the University of Victoria Hockey Club in the first of a two game set. TRU gave the nod in net to Anthony Manfredi, while UVic gave Federico Angel his first start of the year.
In what would end up to be a disheartening game for the home side, things started well enough. Doug Evans opened the scoring for UVic with a blast from the point nearly five minutes in. UVic seemed to carry the play for the opening ten minutes of the game; however a few defensive miscues led to three straight goals by TRU in the latter half of the frame. After one period of play, UVic 1 TRU 3.
It was more of the same from both sides in the second stanza. After coughing the puck up in their own end, UVic conceded another goal before being awarded a five minute power play. UVic was unable to muster anything on the power play, recording just two shots and giving up a shorthanded goal. Dennis Pavlina scored for UVic to stop the TRU run, but TRU would pour it on for the rest of the period. Going into the second intermission, UVic 2 TRU 7.
Looking for something to build on in advance of Saturday’s game at Save-On-Foods Memorial Center, UVic controlled the play in the third period. Tim Manuel replaced Federico Angel in the UVic goal for the remainder of the game. Tommy Adair’s deflection past the TRU goaltender was the only scoring of the frame. Final Score, UVic 3 TRU 7.
UVic went 0/7=0.0% on the power play, while TRU was 0/2=0.0%. TRU outshot UVic 26-25.
Saturday’s contest will see the UVic Hockey Club participate in the Victoria Salmon Kings “Hockey Night in Canada” theme. The Club will host TRU at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre with puck drop set for 2:00PM. Tickets for Saturday’s game are just $5 at the door.
