2011 BCIHL Annual General Meeting Update
For Immediate Release
June 22, 2011
Victoria, BC - The 2011 BCIHL Annual General Meeting took place on May 3rd and 4th in Langley. Hosted by Trinity Western University and Athletic Director Carol Hofer, the meetings focused on continued growth, best practices, rule changes and the general direction of the league.
As the BCIHL continues to mature into a viable alternative for players following their junior careers, the AGM promoted increasing the perceived legitimacy of the league through marketing partnerships and member professional standards.
Previously, BCIHL teams were allowed up to 3 part-time students on their active rosters. One major rule change for the 2011/12 season will prevent member teams from icing any part-time students.
The meetings also saw the University of the Fraser Valley dropping from the BCIHL while the league approved the membership application of Eastern Washington University. EWU marks the first U.S. entrant into the league keeps the seven-team, and 24-game structure the BCIHL used this passed season.
The UVIC Hockey Club, a Vikes Sport Clubs program, is a student-led organization that competes competitively in the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League. Information on the team is available through www.uvicmenshockeyclub.com while league details can be found at www.bcihl.ca.
