UVIC Set for Mainland Road Trip

UVIC (1-1-0) visits TWU (1-5-1) and SFU (5-0-1) this weekend

Victoria, BC - UVic will embark on its second road trip of the season Friday. The Club will look to jump to 2-1 on the season Friday against Trinity Western University before clashing with an unbeaten Simon Fraser University Clan on Saturday.

With a record of 1-5-1, the TWU Spartans had a slow start to the season but are coming off of a solid home stand that saw them earn a decisive victory over Selkirk College and tie the Coyotes from Okanagan College. The Spartans’ offence has been bolstered by Trevor Beaupre and Brandon Long so far this season. Beaupre is coming off a sophomore slump that saw him record just 7 points after recording 23 as a rookie. However, the forward has shot out of the gate with 8 points through 7 games. Long, a former AJHLer, is coming off of a strong season and has contributed with 6 points (5G-1A) so far this year. In net for TWU will likely be Tim Zwiers. Zwiers has posted an impressive 2.72 GAA and 92.61 save percentage despite the Spartans’ struggles.

SFU will present a tall task for UVic. The Clan have added a number of former BCHL and AJHL players this offseason and have picked up where they left off with a 5-0-1 record. Simon Fraser boasts four of the top 10 BCIHL point leaders and has a pair of solid net minders. This game will be a tough test for the UVic side as SFU has lost only once at home in the past three years. That loss was courtesy of an underdog UVic side on October 16, 2010.

UVIC is coming off of a road trip to Castlegar, the home of the Saints, three weeks ago where they earned one win and one loss. The 2010/11 BCIHL MVP, Matthew Bell, once again leads the Club with 5 points through the team’s first two games. Rookies Adam Klein and Cam McWilliam will look to continue their early success in the BCIHL.

Puck drops are scheduled for 7:45 PM on Friday, November 4^th and 7:00 PM on Saturday, October 5^th. Due to the World Junior A Challenge, the November 4^th game will be played at the George Preston Recreation Centre and will not be streamed due to technical restrictions.
