Ben Van Lare posts a hat trick for SFU in 6-2 win over UVic

Victoria, BC -In a Saturday night affair at the Bill Copeland Arena in Burnaby, league-leading SFU hosted UVic in front of 763 Clan supporters. UVic gave the start in goal to Taylor Pears while SFU countered with Evan Kurylo.

It wasn't long before SFU asserted themselves in the first period as team points leader, Ben Van Lare, potted two goals within the opening three minutes of the game. UVic quickly righted the ship and staved off the SFU attack for the balance of the frame. After the first, UVIC 0 SFU 2.

UVic wouldn't be able to fend off the Clan's attack for long, however, as SFU jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the 11:26 mark of the second period. Clearly frustrated, the tension boiled over for both sides at the 12:37 mark and 50 minutes in penalties were handed out following a brief skirmish. Dustin Taylor would get one back for UVic at 16:13 before Ben Van Lare would complete the hat trick. UVic rookie Adam Klein would add a power play marker before the intermission. After two, UVIC 2 SFU 5.

It was more of the same in the final frame as an early SFU goal and an embattled UVic attack provided SFU with the victory. Final score, UVIC 2 SFU 6.

UVic went 1/12=8.3% on the power play while SFU was 0/6=0.0%. SFU outshot UVic by a 29-24 margin.

UVic falls to 2-2 on the season while SFU is still unbeaten at 6-0-1. The next action for UVic will be at home on Saturday, November 12 at home as the Club hosts Okanagan College. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00PM at the Ian Stewart Complex Arena.
