November 12, 2011
Victoria, BC - In a Saturday night match up, the University of Victoria Hockey Club hosted the Okanagan College Coyotes at the Ian Stewart Complex Arena. UVic came into the game with a 2-2 record while OC was 2-2-2 coming to Victoria. Taylor Pears got the start in net for the Club while the Coyotes placed Sunny Gill between the pipes.
The road weary Okanagan College may have been expected to be slow out of the gate in the first period but the Coyotes would prove otherwise. OC would rattle off four goals in the first period with points coming from ten separate players. The last of the Coyotes' goals would come with just 11 seconds remaining to end Taylor Pears' night. After one, UVIC 0 OC 4.
Jason Margolus would start the second period in net for UVic but the Coyotes would solve him just 1:45 into the frame to extend the lead. UVic would finally get on the board at the 18:30 mark as Dennis Pavlina would connect on the power play. After two, UVIC 1 OC 5.
The third period would be a penalty-filled affair with the balance of play being carried by UVic. Tommy Adair would cut the lead to three at the 6:54 mark with a great solo effort. The Club would have numerous chances to gain traction on the power play but would fail to do so. Matt Maycock would deflect a Doug Evans point shot past the OC net minder with six minutes remaining but that would be as close as it would get for UVic. Final score, UVIC 3 OC 5.
UVic went 2/9=22.2% on the power play while OC would go 1/9=11.1%. UVic would out shoot Okanagan College by a 33-31 margin.
UVic and Okanagan College will clash again tomorrow afternoon at ISC Arena in the back half of the home stand. Puck drop is set for 4:00PM.
